Piglets

The Piglets room is bright, cheery, and very welcoming. When bringing children in parents are welcome to enter the room, help the children find their name and peg, and settle them to an activity before saying goodbye.

Toilet training

As we are able to take children from age 2 there is a changing area for nappies. At Sunbeams we are happy to take your lead when it comes to toilet training. Often parents have their own way of dealing with it; whether its pull up pants, using the potty or toilet with a seat, we have everything needed to ensure consistency for your child.

Tiggers

The Tiggers room is a little bit bigger than Piglets. When coming in to Tiggers we have a cloakroom area where the parents can help their children find their peg before going into the Tiggers room to find their name and settle down to an activity.

Children usually enter Tiggers the year before they go to “Big School” and so we try to encourage independence. After an initial settling in period, most children are happy to enter Tiggers by themselves; giving Mum or Dad a kiss at the door!

To the side of the Tiggers classroom is a small terraced area where during warmer weather children can play and can flow freely between the classroom and outdoors.

Sunbeams Garden & Outdoors

Within the grounds of the school just a short walk from the classrooms is the play area and garden, totally enclosed and safe, and partly shaded by a large chestnut tree.

We have a wide range of outdoor equipment including climbing frames, ball games, trampoline and cosy coupes. The garden has raised planters with wild flowers to attract insects and an area for vegetables which the children have planted themselves.

The Sumbeams garden is part paved and astro-turfed at present, but there are plans to further extend the garden and have a barked section with a bug corner, sunken sand pit and balance beam.

In line with Ofsted guidelines, we like to get the children outside as much as possible; including when it rains.

When your child starts at Sunbeams, we will ask that you provide a pair of wellies and if possible waterproof trousers. These stay in the childs own labelled box along with their slippers and a sun hat. We always have spare sun hats and provide sun cream; although you are welcome to provide your own if you prefer.
